.. Before I start off today’s post, I wanted to go ahead and cover important logistics.
As with everything pertaining to pregnancy, it’s very important t put out this disclaimer: before engaging in any exercise/ exercise program, it is extremely important to discuss with your doctor and receive the okay to workout…
Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s get to the fun part….
Although my pregnancy was by far the highlight of 2017 for me, I can’t help but admit that I was hit with a bit of panic, at the thought of possibly not being able to strength train for 9 months. As a fitness junky and a weightlifting addict, I remember thinking to myself, “will I still be able to strength train with this bundle of joy growing in my belly?”
I am here to say, I have indeed been able to keep up with my love for strength training, and it has been the most enjoyable part of my pregnancy thus far. After getting clearance from my doctor to continue weightlifting, with a maximum weight limit of 10 lbs…which, by the way, was a bit of a disappointment for me…. I immediately began putting together a pregnancy-friendly weight lifting routine.
For any momma out there who has been lifting weights prior to being pregnant, you most likely have an idea of what a modified routine for pregnancy would look like..still, as I prefaced earlier, check with your doctor. Being able to continue weightlifting has been amazing for me because it has served as a bonding experience for me and my baby. Although he or she cannot physically engage in the exercises with me, I have been able to feel a sort of connection, with my growing bundle, during my training sessions.
I have found that my pregnancy is more enjoyable because I have been able to continue with something I enjoy doing so much. Also, remaining active has helped me significantly with some of the body aches and pains that come with pregnancy… like the oh so painful joint aches, the backaches, the fatigues… and I have noticed that my nightly sleep has been like heaven on earth.
As a bonus, I have been able to incorporate PlantFusion Complete Plant-Based Protein Powder at the end of my workouts. This product has been a godsend in helping me to gain weight at a healthy pace while pregnant.
Till next time,
